CARIBBEAN DELIGHT
CATAMARAN EXPERIENCE
Looking for a fun few hours? Then this tour is perfect for you. A catamaran will collect you from the quayside, and you ’ll cruise by the golden necklace of beaches on Antigua’s calm west coast. En route to one of the island’s fine 365 beaches, the catamaran drops anchor, for an opportunity to snorkel.
On the beach, a light Caribbean ‘cookout’ is rustled up, and unlimited refreshments will be available too. There is even a steel band to accompany the seaside buffet. You can enjoy plenty of free time to swim, sunbathe or snorkel.
There is little or no walking involved in this tour, however, you will need to be agile enough to get on to and off the catamaran. To disembark at the beach there is a ladder which extends on to the sand; should there be a swell, a small dinghy will be used. This tour is not suitable for passengers with restricted mobility. Come already wearing your swimming costume under casual clothes, and don’t forget your towel and sun protection, as well as walking shoes if you fancy some exploring. The use of snorkel equipment is included. The beach you will visit is subject to change, depending on local conditions. It is worth bearing in mind that all beaches in Antigua are public, therefore, there are likely to be others sharing the beach with you. It is not advisable to drink alcoholic beverages if you intend to swim. Alcoholic drinks will not be served until after the snorkeling stop. To snorkel, there is a ladder over the side of the boat, with approximately 8 steps. Rum punch, fruit punch and soft drinks are included. Entertainment is provided if there are 50 or more participants.
This tour gives you a chance to see beautiful places on the island which are inaccessible by bus, but no problem for our open-sided four-wheel drive, Landrover jeep. Hold on to your hats for this fun-filled, off-road adventure!
The itinerary includes quaint Antiguan villages, panoramic viewpoints, the rainforest, a dam built in the 1800s which is home to many species of water birds and fish, and agricultural areas with crops of sugar cane, cotton and pineapples. You ’ll also traverse the coast road to see a few of the island’s 365 beaches. There are stunning views of famous English Harbour, where the British Navy was stationed during the 1700s, from Convent Hill.
While there is a minimum amount of walking involved, that which is included is over rough, uneven ground, therefore this tour is not recommended for passengers with limited mobility. It is also unsuitable for people with neck or back problems, or pregnant ladies, due to the bumpy terrain that is crossed; children should be 4 years or over. All jeeps – which have steps to board them – are fitted with seatbelts that must be worn at all times. Depending on time, there should be an opportunity to swim in Antigua’s refreshing, crystal-clear water. Come already wearing your costume under casual clothes, and don’t forget your sun protection and towel. Minimum 6, maximum 8 passengers per jeep. Soft drinks are supplied.
WET AND WILD
At the pier boarding a 12-metre (40-feet), purpose-built rigid inflatable power boat in which you’ll enjoy an exhilarating eco
adventure, peppered with wildlife, exotic spots and history. Commencing the tour with some sightseeing along
Antigua’s amazing coastline. As jet along, you shall make various stops to allow for photos. With luck you’ll see brown pelicans, frigate birds, red-bill tropic weather birds, and other coastal and land inhabitants, and you can view landmarks such as Jumby Bay Island, Bird Island, deserted coral islands, Hell’s Gate and the world-renowned North Sound National Park. Their boat slows at North Sound for 30 minutes or so, as you explore the picturesque cluster of uninhabited islands, reefs and mangroves, home to many species of birds and sea life.
You then proceed to a deserted island, to hear a narration about the coral reefs and marine life populations. Here you also have the opportunity to snorkel in a pristine environment, with a guide who’ll provide instruction for both the novice and experienced snorkeled (snorkel gear is provided). Or perhaps you’ll simply choose to relax on this Robinson Crusoe beach!
During your return to St John’s, you´ll head three kilometers (two miles) offshore to encounter more marine life.
The ultimate, most memorable way to experience Antigua’s beauty!
There is only a little walking involved in this tour (approximately 5 minutes to board the boat), however, you will need to be agile enough to get on to and off the rigid inflatable from both quayside and sandy beach. The tour is not suitable for passengers with neck or back problems, or pregnant ladies, due to the bumpy nature of the high-speed boat ride. This is an adventurous experience! Children under the age of 8 are not permitted. Life jackets are provided. Come already wearing your swimming costume, underneath casual clothes – you may get splashed while on the boat – and don’t forget your towel and sun protection, as well as appropriate footwear. The use of snorkel equipment is included. What wildlife may be seen is obviously unpredictable. Please note that there are no toilet facilities to be used on this tour. The boat may not be exclusive to Fred. Olsen passengers. Refreshments are included.
