Weather in Antigua |
Antigua and the other Caribbean islands are renowned for their characteristic "endless summer" weather patterns. For most of the year visitors can count on a high probability that they will enjoy predominantly pleasant weather during their stay. Daytime temperatures typically peak at about 29 degrees celsius plus or minus a few degrees year round. Overnight low temperatures are normally 5 - 8 degrees below the daytime high. Gentle Trade winds from the east blow off the Atlantic to maintain what many consider to be the most nearly perfect climate on earth.

However, the Caribbean is also susceptible to the possibility of severe Tropical Storms and Hurricanes from June 1 through December 1. each year. Historically the most severe storms have hit Antigua during late August and early September
Throughout the Hurricane season all weather systems are closely monitored by a number of meteorological agencies, especially the U.S. National Weather Service. The islands rely heavily on regular weather advisories issued by NWS and these are broadcast several times daily on local radio stations.
The seeds of a potential Hurricane originate in the warm tropical waters of the Atlantic off the west coast of Africa. Throughout the Hurricane season a series of wet weather systems forms in this area and steadily drifts westward carried by the constant trade winds. These alternate with periods of fair weather at intervals of about 4 to 5 days.
